What lagos said. The other day, I was out in my shop, and I had to remove a shifter cable bushing from a shifter mechanism on a tranny. You know, those little rubber things that go inside the ends of the shifter cables? The stupid thing wouldn't budge. I spent like three hours just trying to get this stupid thing off. Okay, it wasn't really that long, but I did spend a LOT of time on it, and I'm thinking, "Here I am, a professional and experience engine swapper, and I'm getting hung up trying to get a SHIFTER BUSHING OFF!!!" But the fact is, those are the things that come up and slow you down. Lots and lots of stupid little stuff. Like I've always said: "It isn't the big stuff, it's the little details that slow you down." In case you care about the rest of the story, it was actually the inner metal part of the bushing that was stuck (rusted) on here, and it just wasn't coming off. (Some of you guys know just how little room there is to work down there with the tranny installed). After I worked on it for a while, I finally took ANOTHER bushing, pressed the inside metal part out (tearing the bushing), and then installed the bushing over the metal part that was stuck to the tranny. With a good washer over it to ensure that it stays together, it was just as good as the real thing. ![]() -Doc This post has been edited by Dr_Tweak: Jan 11, 2006 - 12:46 AM -------------------- -Dr Tweak, 6GC's resident engine swap wiring expert extraordinaire Click here to see my swaps drtweak@phoenixtuning.com |
