I've never had a problem installing springs on Celicas without a spring compressor.
First... lift the car, front or rear whichever end you wanna start first. For the front... remove wheels, remove brake line from strut, detach the two large bolts attaching the strut to the spindle. Remove 3 nuts on strut tower that attaches top mount to body. Strut should now pull out. For the rear, remove wheel, detach brake line, detach sway bar (requires allen wrench and box wrench), remove two large bolts on strut/spindle, remove 3 nuts on rear strut tower, and the strut should pull out. To replace the rears, remove the top mount from the shock, simply remove the single large nut attaching the two together. The shock will probably turn while you try to remove it... so if you have an impact wrench... it'll be that much easier. Umm... there isn't too much load on the spring, but be careful and expect some recoil. Don't stand over the strut or anything, or in the path of the spring... just in case. Once the tops are off, install springs on new struts along with all the bushings and dust covers. Place topmount on shock and reattach the nut. Body weight should be enough to compress the spring to attach the nut. You might need a friend to help you with that. Once it's all back together, replace and do everything in reverse order. For the fronts... KYB's are inserts. You'll need to remove the old shock insert, which may leak, and replace it with the kyb one. Best way to do it is with the proper tools... if none are avail, some ingenuity. I used a pipe wrench and a table vise way back when during my install. Anyway, remove and replace. The rest of the steps are the same as above. -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... I'm an artist!"
