ok... i finally put my s2000 antenna on... and i'm able to keep my old antenna assembly (i had a power one that still worked which i wanted to use for another car) the process took me 4 hrs (lol) because the i wasted a lot of time trying to figure out how to do something... and the process was way different than the how-to in the database
i thought this would be useful for those that wanted to switch to an s2k antenna yet didn't want to cut their antenna... i know this would've been useful for me if it were available parts needed: S2000 antenna - PN 39151-S2H-E01 Celica sub-antenna (includes bracket) - PN 86309-20300 <- this is a 7th gen piece for non-power antennas... i used this because i took it from another how-to and it just so happens to work with a 6th gen anyway The outside silver nut from your old antenna The outside black rubber base from your old antenna the top part of the tube/post inside your trunk miscellaneous flat and phillips head screwdrivers needle nose pliers (2 would be useful) wrench a vice would be useful too 1. Remove the trunk piece that goes against the back of the car. (there are 4 covers close to the bottom, 2 on both of the sides near the top which are for taking out the taillights and 1 small one at both top corners. once they are all out lift up the trim a bit and you should be able to take it off.) ![]() 2. Remove the hatch plastic (detach the strings on the sides, the plastic is held on by a notch on the bottom sides. just lift the plastic up and pull.) ![]() 3. Remove the trunk piece on the side the antenna is on. To do this, first, remove the one cover on the trim piece that covers the taillight (arrow points to it in first picture). now make the rear seat on that side flat (pull that thing in picture 2). this reveals 2 screws you have to unscrew (see below). then i just kinda pryed the piece off slightly... disconnect the power for the trunk light. and moved it out some more. this reveals the antenna sub assembly ![]() 4. now, on the outside of your car, take some needle nose pliers and unscrew the silver nut on the base of your antenna by putting the 'nose' of the pliers in the notches and unscrewing 5. once that is out, go back to the inside of your trunk. the side trim piece you removed should have revealed a hole where the sub antenna assembly sits (see below if you don't know how the sub-antenna assembly looks like). there should be 3 wires attached to it (power, water drainage, reception) just unplug all 3 ![]() 6. there should be a bronze or gold nut just on the side of the sub antenna assembly. unscrew it and the sub antenna assembly is free. just pull it downwards first since after so many years it's kinda stuck to the black rubber outside piece, then you should be able to remove it from the car. 7. now, on the old sub antenna assembly, at the top of the tube/post should be a circle/oval shaped thing. you need to keep that piece. it just pulls right off ![]() 8. take your new celica sub-antenna assembly and unscrew the bracket. 9. at the top of the new sub-antenna post is a oval/circle shaped thing just like your old one (refer to last pic). mine was wrapped in some kind of tape. untape it and pull that top part off. you might notice that the slant of the circle/oval thing is at a different angle, but it doesn't really effect it. so just put your old one on and tape it back up (i tried using the new top part but the black base on the outside of the car wouldn't fit.. i even dremeled it... was no good.. good thing i didnt' dremel it too much) 10. w/ the black outside base removed (btw if you haven't noticed yet, the black base part can be removed... it's not held on by anything at this point, it just might be stuck from all those years of being stuck on.) put the new post inside the car and push it back through the antenna hole position it to match the angle of the hole and then put the black base back on it. if you look underneath the black base, the sides are kinda cut higher and the back kinda has a grove. so match that up with the circle/oval thing on the top of the sub-antenna post. you should probably be able to figure it out. 11. with one hand inside the car pushing the antenna up, use your other hand to screw the silver nut back in. make sure it's tight or the base + sub antenna will move. 12. this was the tricky part... it took me 2hrs to do... i had to custom bend the bracket to make it fit over the post and for the screw to fit in where the bronze/gold nut was supposed to go... i guess this part you just kinda have to... freestyle it.. 13. once you got it bent properly, screw it back around the aub-antenna post and then put the bronze/gold nut back over the screw where it was originally found. 14. put back all the trunk trim pieces and the hatch plastic (steps 3-2-1) 15. screw the s2000 antenna on ![]() the hardest part is the custom bending... it was really damn hard to get it to both fit over the post and for the screw to fit into the hole where the nut goes... but i finally got it This post has been edited by elvasoshexai: Jan 24, 2006 - 8:39 PM -------------------- |
