A while back I had made plans to do this and Kwanza hit me with a few questions that I had to look into such as the crossmember and steering system, well I checked around and the F-Body Camaro seemed to be a good candidate for parts without having to make all of my parts from scratch. Well long story short I picked up a Camaro a couple of weeks ago and also got a running (and smoking) RX-7 FB for good measure (and $400). The Camaro is in to good a shape to be tearing apart so I will use it as a measuring board and see what comes about. It might take me forever but the thing is getting done regardless if I stick to my original parts plan or not.

I won't be doing the welding or fab, buddies at Project Auto Salon can help with the fab and my dad, uncle, and brother weld for a living. Yeah I would drive the Camaro but it's a boat, the 7 is more fun even though it's a third of the power. I've always said the Celica looks like a RWD car and it should have been one in the first place, i've got the tools, skill (or avalibility of skill), I kind of have the money (I can afford a little bit each week), and I got time. Seeing as the way the engine will sit the steering box will be right in the way, the distributor might also be in the way but thats an easy fix, the crossmember is certainly in the way, but that can be fixed, and the engine bay is narrow enough for the mounts. I did my homework on the Celica a while back and I have a couple of cars with similar measurements (7 looks small but under the hood it's another story). The big snag is finding a wrecked GT-Four, they go for pretty cheap but they're rare (around $3000-$5000 through junk dealers). Hey if a guy can cram a twin turbo V8 in a 5th gen I think a 3S wont be an issue.
