I think at one point, being called a "yankee" was not a derogatory term, but rather a nickname used in a deragatory way, especially during the Civil War when Southeners would refer to those from the North. But these days, now that the term has been openly used as the naem of a baseball team and in several songs, mostly from the civil war era, it is no longer thought of as offensive.

In turn, do you get offended if someone calls you an Aussie? i believe was also once used as a derogatory term, but now is considered mainstream.

Actually, I'm Asian, from HK so actually not many people call me Aussie... but I really couldn't give a hoot about what anyone calls me
