you can tell from the front lip thats a 94+ MR2... meaning it has an MR2 3rd gen 245 HP 3sgte with ceramic CT20b turbo instead of the standard 2nd gen 225 HP 3sgte with steel CT26 turbo.

Its not just the weight advantage its the big hit the 4 takes in transmission losses, MR2T's win hands down in a straight line come the top of 3rd gear (4 gets the hole shot with a good launch)
Add some bends and a bit of surface water and its a different story though

the wet/adverse conditions is the only thing that makes the GT4 better, put both through some twisties in nice weather and the MR2 will pull away even more.

and as far as the launch thing i raced my MR2t vs my friends 5th gen alltrac (he was putting down more HP than i was) and he only pulled about 1 to 1 1/2 car lengths on the launch and i bogged a little... and that was on a drag strip too... he ended up nosing me by like 1/8th of a length, too bad it was a late fall day and we didnt get time slips b/c the leaves were tripping the lights

As someone who has legally raced against an MR2 with a GT4 on tight twisty roads, I can assure you that isn't the case. The MR2 was modded and my GT4 was basically standard at the time and while he did have the edge in a straight line, I was all over him in the corners. GT4 with it's 4WD system will be far more stable in the corners and will be able to accelerate out of the better too.
