IMO its a point not really worth arguing because everyone will always see things differently, but if a good driver took both cars out on a well maintained road course the MR2 will pull a faster time, the GT4 is much easier to push to its limit, the mr2 like any midengine vehicle takes a lot of experience to drive to its absolute limit, in your case im sure the driver/car combo was much better than that of your opponent.
stability is dependant on the drivers ability to control the weight transfer of the vehicle, if the driver is experienced in driving MR it can be driven right at the limit and hold a higher G level. After looking them up the GT-4 is rated at .84 Gs while the MR2 is rated at .94 Gs.
