Are there such things as HID or LED interior lights... that make your car like a pumpkin on halloween.

The BA9 globes which are LED won't help, as the light is being emitted perpendicular to the globe socket. Been there, done that. And I don't think you will want HID unless you rewire your interior lights to be taken from the battery, and want to feel quite warm each time you have the light on.
