i've reading about this missing link or something... what is it? what dose it do? where dose it go do i need it running 5psi?

The FMU increases the fuel pressure, and thus fuel delivered, in relation to the boost pressure. It has nothing to do with the map sensor. It's to get about the right ratio of fuel to air so that you do'nt go lean.
It's a very reliable system that's been used for many many years on high quality aftermarket turbo kits.
