Ok guys, just wondering if I could get some input. I was thinking about adding a functional hood scoop with ram air to my celi.... Weapon R has a ram air kit for around 85 bucks, although I believe I could make one myself for a fraction of that. As far as money goes, I dont plan on spending any more than it takes to buy the intake + ram kit, scoop, and do the repainting of the hood. Just thought it might be an interesting mod ... whatta ya think?

I have done the headlight mod... except I did it to both of the brights to keep a symetrical look to my car.... I also have the 3sgte so the extra air doesnt affect it like it would to a N/A 5sfe.... newayz... there are actually 3 different types of air intake systems...

Short aka intake
CAI
Direct-air aka ram-air

Short air intake is just a replacement for ur stock intake... is still a big improvement over stock but not the best choice out of the 3 unless you are going to use a cold air box.

CAI is a longer version of the the short that locates the fliter farther way from the engine.... hense the name COLD air intake... this system will allow more O2 to enter the fuel/oxygen mixture because the air is cooler and more condensed hot O2... this system is okay to use for a cold air box but isn't always the best bet due to usally limited space.

Direct- air... Is one of the Best intake systems there are.... usally custom made. This system locates the filter directly in the path of onecoming air... this air is alot cooler than neother system and also has a forcing affect on the air.... is recommened that you upgrade your fuel injectors if you plan on using this type of system.... The nice thing about this system is that when installed right it will strech your powerband into the higher rpms.... thus more power longer out of each gear... the faster your vehicle goes the more air that is forced into the intake and the faster volicity that the air has....

I would also suggest that if you have an N/A engine... no turbo or charger.. that you should look into different cam shafts if you are going to do a Direct- air system.... you will want cams with more duration than stock... allowing more air per revolution to enter the engine.

Cold Air Box...This is a system that uses Direct-air... indirectly....forced cold air is taken into the engine compartment via a funnel of some type which connects to an alumminum or plexiglass box... at the bottom of this box is drain wholes for excess water. inside of the box is your intake filter... cold air is trapped in the box and then the intake has this air to breath off of instead of the hot engine compartment air..

an old school drag racing trick is to fill the box with Ice right before racing. and if availbe to spray the filter with nitrous oxide.

with any of these systems beside the short system it would be smart to have water bypass valve... this detects water entering the intake system and will shut down it down and draw air from a filter inside the engine compartment.... this is VERY important if you have a Direct or CAI system and drive your car in the winter or rain... even one time can do damage to your engine as water CAN NOT be combusted....I won't go into deatil about this but trust me you do NOT want water in your engine.

I hope this will answer some of your questions about air intake systems... If you have ne other questions feel free to ask.
