Heh... I've toyed around with this idea after doing some AE86 struts... but basically Toyota uses very similar inserts for their macphearson struts. That said, you can use MR2 AGX shocks (most readily avail) and drop them in... but I believe the Celica strut casing is slightly longer, so a spacer will be needed, or you simply shorten the casing. What punch did was shorten the casing, cut off the perch, and welded on coilovers. Pretty standard for DIY suspension...
