Hello guys just wondered if you guys have noticed this on your celicas.
-When I go to take off from a stop sign with enough go pedal that I can spin a tire when I hit a patch of dirt my steering wheel will kick to one side and the car will go that way until I compensate for this. I believe this is called "understeering or oversteering" I can't remember the technical term used, but it is common on front wheel drive cars.... -Now I find it really annoying, say if you wanted to really take off and instead of going in a straight line you are fighting the steering wheel from moving side to side. -Is there anything that would help with this? Say different "size" tires or a higher pressure power steering pump to hold the tires straight with less force needed. -I used to drive a turbo charged rear wheel drive car and did not have any of this to deal with, it makes me want my rear wheel drive back!!!!!! Any thoughts ideas???? |

Torque steering thats It!!! So do alot of people complain of this on these cars at take off or am I the only special person???
-Any other options besides a limited slip? -I believe a fella had a celica for sale on e-bay it was red with the GT-4 rear wing on it and he had 18" black rims. Now in the add it said he had no torque steer. I am not sure why though..... -Did the oversize 18" rims weigh so much that he couldn't spin the tires and torque steer disappeared? Or did the oversize tires "grip better" thus preventing tire spin, they looked to be at least an 1" wider" than stock tires. -Or did he have a limited slip installed? I don't remember????? -Funny thing was he said he had "lower gearing" for his special edition celica, which would give him more power on take off making tire spin easier...... HHHHMMMMM just thinking out loud here... -What have you guys tried to destroy torque steer???? Wider tires, tires with more grip, bigger rims, limited slip???? |
