Ok my gf's car is a 97 St with the 7afe motor. She "blew it up" a couple of months ago and her grandpa "fixed" it by replacing the rod bearings. When she starts it, it has a knocking sound and then it stops and when the revs get to about 4grand it starts again. Now from my experience with motors I think its the rod bearings again and I told her I would replace them. Is there anything that I should know before tearing it apart? Also, what are the torque specs for the rod bolts?
Actually I am peronally a honda guy in the process of completing my turbo project on my d16y8 in my 98 ex, but I have love for all cars. |

sounds like the new bearings arent in right or there was damage to the crank or connecting rod. you'll need to mic the crank journal to get the correct sized bearing, possibly get the crank machined if its been damaged, and it wouldnt be a bad idea to replace the rod.
