Ok my gf's car is a 97 St with the 7afe motor. She "blew it up" a couple of months ago and her grandpa "fixed" it by replacing the rod bearings. When she starts it, it has a knocking sound and then it stops and when the revs get to about 4grand it starts again. Now from my experience with motors I think its the rod bearings again and I told her I would replace them. Is there anything that I should know before tearing it apart? Also, what are the torque specs for the rod bolts?
Actually I am peronally a honda guy in the process of completing my turbo project on my d16y8 in my 98 ex, but I have love for all cars. |

I would never take a chance after a spun bearing.
Do it right, have the crank reground and get oversized bearings. Oh and by the way welcome. Torque according to Chiltons. 22lbs first pass Final pass turn an additional 90deg. for 97-98 only 94-96 are different.
