Now I know why my car was boosting funny and "had a leak" Options

Wastegate was dangling by ONE bolt!

No clue how it got to that point.


My friend tightened all the hardware, replaced gaskets and everything is merry. Car is pulling very hard now. He alligned it...now it drives straight like an arrow...until boosting. Torque steer is still an issue. I wish it was a little bit but it's too much. Either pulls to one side or the other. Another friend of mine drove it and he got scared and almost hit the curb. And he drives an 11 second flat Mirage. Anyway, the serious stuff will happen next month...I'll be able to install the EMS and the forged goodies. Anybody have a cure for torque steer? I have never experience such amount in any other turbo FWD car.

Nothing exciting about an auto 3sgte. I would be disapointed.

why would you be disappointed? an automatic is prefered over manual in a drag setup..since thats wat 99% of this board focuses on an automatic would be really sweet

an automatic 3sgte swap, would really suck. the car would be a lot slower and less fun to drive, and you would really not get as big of a power upgrade from the swap. not to mention that the automatic tranny would not be able to hold the power of the 3sgte.

you cant compare a normal automatic tranny to what they use in drag cars. those are totally different things. most high powered drag cars use a clutchless 4speed shifter. its not the same thing as a normal automatic tranny.

i know they use clutchless 4spds....i also know boost responds VERY well to and automatic car and doesn't drop off between shifts like a manual car..and i see this as going on a personal preferance...just look at the 7afte crowd..oobe is automatic...nik was stick both setups were pretty quick and did well...i highly doubt an automatic 3sgte would be that much slower maybe a few tenths of a second if that...the "less fun" to drive part is all in each individual's preferance...i like both boosted manual celicas, jettas but i also have tons of fun driving and automatic boosted volvo..now if you had an automatic 3sge tranny it might or might not hold up...we don't know so you can't really make an assumption on that...even so someone could probably rework the torque converter and make it work.....i wouldn't call it dumb until its been done...there was a point in time when people thought someone was dumb for even thinking about a 3sgte swap but look were its at now.....
