 Whats with my antenna? |

My antenna is broken and i dont know whats wrong. I think the motor is just totally taken out. I cant move the antenna above the first segment but can move down without any problems. There is also a cord in the trunk near the antenna that is connected to nothing giving me the impression that the motor is missing. Does anyone know what is wrong or how to fix it?

Theres a small plastic cog in the motor unit that wears smooth and causes the aerial problem. Why didn't they make it out of metal?
