Another 6gc idea from Jay Options

Here is my idea: 6gc hosted videos! I know there is some bandwith expenses that go with this idea but it might be worth it. I am not suggesting hosting every video - just ones that moderators believe are worth archiving. You could have a multimedia sticky in the appropriate forum where people could go and click cool videos. I think it would add to the quality of the site.

By the way, I think the website is already great and my several ideas should not be interpreted as me being critical or ungrateful for the work that has already gone into the site. /end disclaimer.

Thanks for the idea Jay. I always encourage users to propose new ideas and greatly appreciate it.

A multimedia section is definitely in the works so posted up videos won't be lost as easily, but hosting videos would require MASSIVE amounts of bandwidth.

Not only do you have to worry about members from this site downloading them, but I'm sure cool videos would be linked to from other sites as well. If the site happens to be huge like Honda-Tech.com, I'd not only exceed my bandwidth amount and get charged massive amounts of money, but the server would also be slow with tons of concurrent video downloads.

Even an upgrade to a large dedicated server wouldn't provide enough bandwidth and server space in some situations.

I agree that video hosting on 6GC would be very cool, but it's just not very feasible. But a multimedia section is in the works.
