hey guys. well, my brother has a 2001 celica, and i have a 1999 celica.
people are always telling me that i could have just got 1 year up and got a 7th gen, but i always just asnwer "why? i dont want the 2000 one" and they always just answer by saying they think its "better" but to tell you the truth, i like the 6th generation one more. its more unique in a good way. to me, the 7th generation one looks a bit too stubby and it looks like the rear got cut short and the back bumper is HUMONGOUS. im not hating on the 7th generation, cuz they are great cars. 7th gen gets HELLA good mpg. and i read somewehre that the 7th gen GT 0-60 is 8.5? thats pretty much the same as the 6th gen. |

To me, the 6th Gen GT vs the 7th Gen GT is a no brainer. Of course I am loyal to my 6th Gen b/c I think the quality is a little better with material look and finish, and maybe engine, but I doubt that the 7th Gen is far behind, b/c Toyotas are still near the top in quality. The 7th Gen just doesn't look as solid and the back end look is a lot less to be desired than the 6th Gen Hatch. Comparing power stock, the 7th Gen probably has a slight advantage with the 140 vs 135 HP, but that is not enough difference to justify me buying the 7th Gen (even though the bolt ons are more available and better than the 6th Gen too). Styling wise, I have been a 6gc addict b/c our cars are still one of the rarest sights on the road, and even with my slight mods (compared to many of your sweet rides), my car is a one of a kind sighting to me. I usually drive between a few cities in my area with 350K plus population, and I only see a handful of modified 6gcs (mostly with body kits). Now since I have the GT-Four blocks, lowered, painted calipers, rims, etc, I will probably have to travel to see one of you guys to see a car like mine. It's just a great feeling.
NOW, the 7th Gen GT-S is more tempting obviously b/c of the power difference, with the 180 HP VVT-I high rev engine. That extra lift at top end is sweet thing to experience, and if you are willing to trade off everything I mentioned about the 6th Gen above, go for it! (Now obviously I am not considering that we can do the 5SFTE, 3S engine swap and all, so I am not using that in my decision versus the GT-S or GT. Pretty much doing a stock vs stock comparison here engine-wise.) |
