the original paint on my hood was heat checked and cracked, so yes i'm worried about this.
i cruise at 80mph weekly and take my car on long (10+hour) trips a few times a year. i'll drive at 80 for 5-6 hours at a time. just a short trip (about 2-3 miles at 45mph) and my hood is too hot to touch! if you spit on the top of it, it will steam off in a few seconds. pop the hood and put your hand 6 inches from the header at idle, and you'll want to pull it away in about 30 seconds, its hot enough for me to cook a hotdog over ![]() my header doesnt get redhot, i doubt the egt's are that high. stock turbo'd cars have generous heat sheilding and insulation to keep the paint on the hood safe. if i had that mat material under the hood, i doubt it would get that hot. -------------------- |
