Sorry if I am posting this in the wrong forum, but can anyone tell what this is that was cut? Is it a VERY IMPORTANT part missing?

Looks complete enough to not scare me! LOL Seriously though I think you're fine, it's just the positive battery cable.

Adios, David Yup, MR2 - the alternator connections come off the harness where the intake manifold is, not at the front of the motor next to the exhaust manifold.
