So I'm dreaming of beating the smack out of my little 5sfe. I do know that to push it hard, I'd have to upgrade the internals. I'm not close to crossing that bridge, but what would I need to do to make it not blow up? What exactally would I upgrade?

OK...for all of those.

You need new cams. Go to WebCam Performance Camshafts for those.

importperformanceparts.net is where you want to go for most of the other stuff. You don't just wanna look at what stuff to upgrade either. You need to check out basically replacing your internals. Thi is if you wanna beat the crap out of your engine. That site probably has the best bang for your buck.

Rods and Main Bearings
WebCam Camshafts

To get performance pistons...you will either need to bring your block to a machine shop and tell them your needs...or WAIT for TopEnd Performance to get their 5sfe project done. They will actually have a whole turbo kit that includes upgraded internals...but they will be selling the internals separately. You might wanna try calling them and seeing if they any of them done...if so ask if they have tested them on that many cars and tell them you will try them and do a writeup if they give u a little better price. It worked for jhull. Also, don't neglect piston rings please. lol. Surprised no one mentioned that.

I'd get one of those new Venom fuel pumps...but you can get the 7mgte fuel pump and injectors and they will work in your car.

You definitely need a metal head gasket. Not only for protection from blowing your existing one...but also to lower your compression since your going forced induction.

IF you wanna go over 300...tranny and axles will come into play for sure. I'd go with some custom axles and the tranny from either the v6 solara or the mr2 turbo. They will bolt right up to your engine and everything but you will need custom axles.

Also, I don't know what type of manifold he was referring to...considering there is an intake and an exhaust manifold. But this really isn't going to matter too much. Just bring your intake manifold to a machine shop and have them clean it up and make sure everything looks good.

I would first consider though, even before going through with the forced induction... to get a friend who knows a lot about engines. Why? To rip apart your block and replace everything. I mean everything...especially all the bearings, gaskets, and seals. I would also replace your Valve Guides, valves. Anything that you can replace while your block is all ripped up, do it. It will save you frustration later on. You'll be really pissed when you're at the track (or wherever you race) and you wanna just jump on it. You do, and you notice a weird throttle miss...only to find out that it's becuase you didn't replace the valve guides (probably $2.79/piece I think...last time I checked I think but I'm a bit woozy so don't quote me) and you have to rip apart the block and replace those. That will really suck! So just, when you're inside your block...do everything. It will pay off...and make your car basically have a brand new engine for less.
