any ideas? ive never done anything like this before but ive always wondered what would be involved

^ very diff, due to the size of guages appose to thoes subs you cant do it that way, it wont turn out very good, best off buying a a pillar guage pod and molding it.

Sorry mate, but didn't you describe virually the same thing that the sub guy did earlier on?

Other than using a wooden ring, use the gauge pod?

A Piller
Gauge Pod
Fasten together
Stretch some fabric around to get the shape you want
Resin onto the fabric so it goes hard
layer or 2 of fibreglass and resin for strength
cover with bodyfiller
sand
paint
admire your handywork.

compared to:-
wooden frame
wooden ring

nah seriously though, it is fairly easy mate, just don't get resin in your eye like subbox dude did. DOH!!
