hey whats the deal with those electric turbo/super charger things i see online? do they even work? and if anyone knows that would be great cuz i dont wanna go spending some money for nothing, it seems logical basically need a blower of some sort blowing air faster than the motor can naturally suck? i read somewhere maybe this site even, that with ram air at 80 MPH you build 0.8 PSI so i figure if you get a blower of some sort that can blow really fast that you can build like somewhere from 0-5 psi with some sort of contraption, theres a website www.blowerwheel.com/ and on that site theres a few blowers there that look like they could do the trick, well if anyone knows anything about what im tryin to say here please let me know, i've been thinking about this sort of thing for a while and was really wondering if it actually works well let me know thanks

sorry but no one was talking about the ERAM, go to blower wheel.com and look around, those are the blowers im talkin about..............something along those lines, i looked at the e-ram before and it looks useless, theres a few blower i found that can blow more than 600CFM and thats about what a small stock turbo makes.............

QUOTE(Sypher6869 @ Aug 10, 2006 - 3:13 PM) sorry but no one was talking about the ERAM, go to blower wheel.com and look around, those are the blowers im talkin about..............something along those lines, i looked at the e-ram before and it looks useless, theres a few blower i found that can blow more than 600CFM and thats about what a small stock turbo makes............. the amount of power drawn from the alternator (when the alternator makes power it takes power from the engine) will not be offset by the power that may be made by the fan. also, drawing too much current from the alternator for long periods of time will damage it, usually the front bearings will go. an alternator at full feild output will take many many lb/ft of torque to turn, then the conversion back from electrical to mechanical enegery isnt 100% especially if you need to use an inverter. the inverter alone is probably only going to be 75% effeicent at the best, so theres a 25% loss of power right there. now the motor itself will giveup some to friction and some to just ineffeicency. so realisticaly you'll only get maybe 60% of the power the alternator has put out back into the that fan blade. every time you change the form of the energy you loose some along the way. the amount of power drawn by the electric motor is not made back by the small amount of air it pushes in. its not the AMOUNT of air it moves, its the amount of air at what pressure it moves. 600cfm is a no load rating, meaning in an open room it moves 600cfm. load it down trying to push 1 or 2 psi and it drops dramatically, over 1/2 i'd venture to guess, additionally the power it draws ramps up exponentially. the only electric super charger that i know of that works uses a big heavy bank of batteries to draw power from and only gives about 15 seconds of boost. -------------------- |
