I just got a low milage engine swapped in...and I was wondering wut octane level I should use....I'm not sure if it's a 5sfe or a 3sfe all I know is it's JDM....and I read that using regular octane levels makes the engine preform better. Is that true?

What you could do is run it on regular gas for the next 4-6 weeks and when you're driving listen carefully to the engine (no loud music etc ![]() If I remember correctly Octane is basically a rating that tells you how likely the gasoline is to combust (explode) under pressure - the higher the octane, the more pressure it can take. So if you get a high compression engine and run low octane fuel in it, the fuel may start exploding before the spark plug ignites it - this messes up the timing of the engine and can cause a knocking or pinging sound. Over a short period this doesn't cause much damage, but if the octane rating is too low (89 octane gas in an engine that needs 100) and is left too long, damage can occur to many things - seals, valves etc. Hope this helps ![]() -------------------- ![]() |
