 Engine revving weird |

Ok so lately my car has been revving weird. Whenim in 3rd-5th and cruising a long at say 2-3k rpms if I hit the gas the rpms jump up to 4-5k as if I had the clutch in, then they drop back down to about 3200 and drive normally. What could be wrong?

My first celica had this problem, I ended up destroying the disc with highrevs it was nice. Luckily it wasnt a surprised and I already had the replacement disc just waiting in the garage. This just gave me a reason to do it.
