ok....so i hear if you put cotton in your box it makes it louder??? am i right or is people just talkin crap to me???
Also, if it is right, does it matter if its ported or not, cause wouldnt the cotton come out in a ported box??? so one give me some insight please! thanks, Dustin -------------------- ![]() |

The cotton won't come out if you use a spray adhesive on the back of the box before you put your batting in there. I use the same spray adhesive for this as I do for carpeting my boxes.
I've always added filler to my boxes. I've heard that adding between 20-40% fill in a box is best, but use a looser fill like quilt batting. Carpet underlay or spray foam is a lot denser and doesn't have a as great an effect on sound waves. I've also heard that the sound wave diffusion caused by the batting creates the effect of having a larger box in a smaller enclosure as the compression is changed. Whether this is true, I don't know, but in all the sealed boxes I have run, I found adding a few layers of batting to it cleaned up the sound and made it smoother. -------------------- ![]() |
