I'm in the process of sanding down and polishing and painting my rims at the moment. And I need to remove the valve stems on the rims becuz they are in the way of my sanding. I tried pounding it off with a hammer but it won't come out the other way. I didn't pound too hard becuz I didn't want to accidentally damage the rim in any way. How do I remove the valve stems off the rims? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

There's a little tool you can get to thread into the core (after pulling the core stem out). Once threaded in, yank. It installs the stems in the same manner. Nifty little piece.
