2 nights ago i was pullin up to a stop light and saw a civic ex there....i was all excited because for some reason people are afraid to race me, and i thought this guy would. Well the light turned green and i punched it. I took off with little or no competition, i could look in my rear veiw mirror and see him, BUT...then all of a sudden he started to catch up. then he passed me. We were doing about 85 mph and he blew past me like i was standing still. needless to say he beat me. I am still dumb founded as to what happened. It didnt seem like a fast enough boost to be nitrous, could it have been his turbo kicking in? I am dumbfounded...and now my friends make fun of me....especially the one that drives a civic. My car is pretty much stock except for a injen short ram, but i dont think that i would have been beaten that bad unless the guy had a turbo.

I don't think the guy had a turbo. It probably was the VTEC kicking in at that high speed. Remember his 5sfe is made for torque, which is why he beat him off the line so easily. I have a Nissan Altima with a 2.5 and when the CVT kicks in at highway speeds it's unreal how quick it is. That's what variable valve timing is, and that's why our U.S. sixth gens got the short end of the stick.
