I have the choice between a 77 liftback very clean needs a wheel bearing,
or a AE 92 corolla GTS very clean also, it needs 1 tail light lens. They both run really good. Sorry no pics. I was going to buy an AE92 a while back and the seller flaked out on me. Turned out to be a blessing in disguise because this one is in way better condition. Celi is orange, GTS is silver and black 2 tone. The GTS is also a few hundred less than the celi. Corolla, hands down...
The Celica is nice, and very nostalgic in that sense, but that R-motor needs a fair amount of tuning before you can get it to feel sporty with 77 emissions choking it... The corolla, on the other hand, already has an upper hand because of the more modern and easier to get parts for aftermarket 4A-GE in it... Keep in mind that the Corolla has about 15 plus years of development and technology behind it, whereas the first celicas, nice in their day, are pretty cude considering your example has roots that date back to 1970... The Corolla would prolly cost quite a bit less to make it go pretty damn quick, and i'm also fairly confident to say that you could spend less to make it grip really well...
