for most people, the biggest difference is price.
the cheapest i've seen a trd quickshifter is $125, but an aftermarket short shifter can be had for as little as $25 off ebay. i actually made a short shifter myself, so it was essentially free. mechanically, they do effectively the same thing. the higher the fulcrum is placed on the shifter rod, the shorter the distance the knob will have to move to engage a gear. the trd unit does this by moving the plastic cup that the ball rotates in a little higher to allow a longer lower arm. an aftermarket or homebrew will extend the lower arm less, but compensate with a shorter upper arm. there are plenty of threads about installing aftermarket ones, or check the how-to's. -------------------- ![]() do you know who i am, mr. worley? |
