Ok.. I had aamco install the LSD on my e153.. here is the info
99 camry v6 5spd 95 jdm mr2 vlsd Ok.. I took my trans to aamco and told them to install the mr2 diff.. the differential had the speedo gear on it already.. Reason I mention this is because my speedo started to work erradicly lately.. and I was fearing what I found out today.. I pulled the speedo unit out of the trans and the gear teeth on the unit were worn down to ****.. ![]() Also when I turn the wheel even the slightest bit to the left or right (especially the left) i get a grinding noise.. Now when I helped my buddy work on his WRX trans.. we put the differential in wrong.. didn't set the proper preload and he had the EXACT same noise as I am getting... then he had subaru set it up and all was well. I'm just wondering if there is anything I could've screwed up myself during the install of the trans/axles that may of I dont' know.. shifted? the differential or something... cuz I can't come up with anything.. I don't know WHY the gear teeth on the speedo are worn down to nothing either.. how the diff might've been installed wrong to cause that I don't know.. any idea's? The differential came with the speedo ring gear only.. I gave aamco an alltrac diff to take the drive gear off of that to put on the mr2 LSD.. which they did.. atleast I think.. cuz they gave me the alltrac diff back minus the drive gear.. So as far as I can tell I don't think I screwed anything up on my end.. but any idea's on this would be helpful. -------------------- 87 4runner DLX 22re, 5spd, 4.30gr, 4" lift, 30" tires, HID w/ Projectors, 6spkr + sub, custom exhaust, 94 celica leather seats, SR5 gauge cluster and clinometer. I had aamco install the LSD on my e153.. here is the info I think that's your problem... ![]() They very well could have forgot the shims or something during the install. It may also just be the speedo gear itself - When I had my 205 tranny converted to FWD, the shop (KAAZ USA!) had to buy the speedo gear and a few other parts. That was a KAAZ LSD, so I think its different. Did your tranny always make noise when turning? The stock VLSD should be silent, unlike aftermarket diffs. Hopefully somebody else can jump in here with more encouraging info. -Charlie -------------------- 2003 Subaru WRX Wagon

I don't think it's the transmission though.. cuz like I said.. heard the exact same thing from a wrx trans when we put the differential in wrong... exact same symptoms. I don't think it's the speedo gear itself because it was working fine for a few months then took a crap.. plus the grinding noise when I turn the wheel.. and I don't mean like.. enter into a full turn.. I mean turn the wheel even the slightest bit to the left or right... Plus I have a leaky driver side axle seal.. just barely leaks anything.. but I replaced the seal.. and I can't figure out why it still leaks.. another reason I think the diff might be in wrong.. could be why the axle seal isn't sealing up properly. -------------------- 87 4runner DLX 22re, 5spd, 4.30gr, 4" lift, 30" tires, HID w/ Projectors, 6spkr + sub, custom exhaust, 94 celica leather seats, SR5 gauge cluster and clinometer.
