well i was speaking with my uncle who works at toyota in west palm,fl. he said they held a meeting last week and they talekd about how the celica would be reintroduced in 2008-2009, and he said it was a topic confirmed by toyota.
he also said the reason for the kill of the celica was so that SCION would get a boom with the intro of the tc (which it did). so now that scion has established itself, toyota felt time for the celica to be back into production and further kill the small coupe market by ofering two versions. |

As far as I know, the only thing that killed Celica was its price tag...it just became too bloody expensive!
Iīm not sure how things were in the US (although I heard some rumours about the Mitsubishi Eclipse being almost a third of the price cheaper than the Celica, so with its turbo-powered engine and 4WD drivetrain, it just was more desirable than the 7th gen.), but over here, you could buy an RX-8 Revolution C for the price of the 7th gen. Celica TS, or add about four thousand Euro, and buy the 350Z, which is far of 7th gen. class, I must say! Anyway, I really donīt think that Toyota will give effort in making the 8th generation of Celicas (to back up the theory, letīs just say that the Supra-idea has been developing for almost as long as Nissanīs Silvia S16, and that does not present any comfort in any way, as far as Iīm concerned), and, I have to be honest, I donīt know should I keep my fingers crossed in the direction of seeing that they do, or make my fingers look the other way... ...but, we shall see, wonīt we?! -------------------- ![]() Another proud 6G Celica owner! |

QUOTE(IGloo @ Jan 3, 2007 - 9:35 AM) Anyway, I really donīt think that Toyota will give effort in making the 8th generation of Celicas (to back up the theory, letīs just say that the Supra-idea has been developing for almost as long as Nissanīs Silvia S16, and that does not present any comfort in any way, as far as Iīm concerned)... I would expect both a MKV Supra and an 8th Gen Celica, or neither. Supra based on the Lexus S or SC platform and Celica based on the (Camry) ACV-30 or MCV-31 platform. This would mean that both the Supra and the Celica would be front-engine, rear-wheel (or all-wheel) drive. I'd expect the 8th Gen Celica to be visually very similar externally to the MKV Supra, perhaps even more so that the 6th gen Celica and MKIV Supra - a true baby Supra; but largely share an interia with the Camry Solara. The problem comes with the MR2. As far as I know, the MR2 has never shared a platform with any other car from Toyota group (which is one of the reasons the MR2 was always so expensive IMO) and Toyota group don't currently have a rear or mid-mounted engine platform. That would lead me to speculate that either the MR2 won't return or will effectively be a Lexus SC430 with 2l engine, budget interior (to reduce weight compared to the SC430) and face-lifted to complement the 8th Gen Celica. All speculation, of course. -------------------- Davey
