I started my 3S swap for the first time tonight... It fired right up on the very first attempt and kept running until I turned it off. That was a pleasant surprise since this is my first swap and harness I've done.
I just need to find that damn clamp for the AFM. I know it's hiding in my garage somewhere. If all I lost was a clamp then I'd say I'm doing pretty good. The open 3" downpipe makes this thing sound mean. Turbo spool is VERY audible even during light throttle in neutral. Cold idle is normal at 1100 RPM and drops to 800 once the engine is up to operating temperature. The RC AFM and ECU seem to be working great on the 90-91 harness converted to a 92-93 RC harness. All my gauges seem to function normally and all the dummy lights work fine too. I'm expecting a code 54 and low boost mode but that's fine with me until I get this tank of 87 octane used up. First test drive will be tomorrow after work once I slap the axles in and fill the transmission with fluid. Time to get some much needed sleep. -------------------- ![]() Project ST204.5 99.88946% complete... |

Is it normal to sound like an F16 preparing for takeoff when I close the throttle suddenly? I have no BPV so I was thinking it was compressor surge but it doesn't have that fluttering sound you usually associate with surge.
youve answered your own question mate. you dont have an air filter, hence nothing muffling/blocking the noise the turbo makes. so as the turbo compressor wheel spins up to create boost and then u back off the throttle... the turbo compressor wheel will spin until it eventually looses its momentium. hence making the cool wooshing f16 sound u describe. also i wouldnt recommend not having an air filter on, its purpose isnt only for dust, but also to stop things going in there that should ... i.e a leaf or insect, if something does go up there the turbo compressor could get wrecked... and thats expensive. get a pod filter or something asap! |
