I recently bought a 97 Celica GT Convertible. I decided to give the car a complete tune up, being that it is at 80K miles. I have the car half way apart trying to change the timing belt & water pump, & I cannot get the crank pulley bolt out. It is really on there.
I am following the directions in the book I have, jamming a screwdriver in the hole & using a prybar to keep the crank from spinning. I can keep the crank from turning well enough. My problem is this bolt will just not come loose. I even went out & bought a $160 craftsman impact wrench, that is supposed to put out 700 ft/lbs of torque. The bolt refuses to move. Is there some trick to this? I sprayed it down with PB Blaster yesterday, last night, & again this morning. Any one have any suggestions? How tight is this crank bolt supposed to be anyway? It isn't reverse threaded is it? |

I ended up using a 4' cheater pipe and 1/2" drive ext (sticking out of the wheel well) PB works good, make sure your impact is in reverse, yep it happens.

X2 a nice long section of pipe over a 24" breaker bar..the heavier you are, the easier it gets from there...lol ![]() -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)
