I plan on replacing my heater core this sat and was wondering where i should start when i start taking off the dash???

Disconnect the negative battery terminal, first and foremost. Work slowly and keep the fasteners you remove well organized, and lay out a piece of cardboard or a box to set all your panels on.
I'd start by removing the stereo and climate control surrounds, vents, knee panels/center console, steering wheel surrounds and gauge cluster like BloodyStupidDavey mentioned.
