I was driving on the highway about 70 mph today, I gave it a full boost accelleration and my friend in the pass seat noticed the shifter popped out of 5th gear into neutral. So I put it back into 5th and I couldnt accelerate. Now the car is stuck in 5th gear. All the shifter cables are good. I think the spec stage 2 disc broke. It was custom for the 3s swap using the stock gt transmission. Ive been hearing a rattle sound when at idle with the clutch petal out. When I pushed it in it would go away. I was told by spec that its my throw out bearing. It made sense at the time. I guess they were probably wrong. This sucks!!!!!I'll let you all know when I get it apart. later

Heres how it broke. I was on the highway doing about 60 mph. I came up to an mr2 and he was looking at me like he wanted to go. So I hit it. Next thing I knew I was doing 100 mph and the trans slipped out of 5th. I tried to put it back in and it was grinding. when I did get it into gear it got stuck. 5th slipped off the end of the shaft and rubbed into the case. It tore the synchros up somewhat.
Im not saying that the s54's cant handle the power, It just seems that they have a better chance of failure because they arent designed for the extra torque. The only problem I had with it before was when it was cold 3rd gear would grind. Lately it got much worse. Only after I bumped up the boost. Im sure it was coming sooner or later. I just thing the extra power made it come sooner. I dont want this problem again so I bought an E-153. I dont like being stranded on the highway and paying a tow bill. |
