QUOTE(Punch @ Feb 15, 2007 - 9:06 PM) MR2OC thread titled How to put a 3SGTE head on a 5SFE block: http://www.mr2oc.com/showthread.php?t=864 First off Why!? Easy, the 5S block is actually stronger than the 3S, who woulda thunk it! It says that some 5SFE blocks will bolt up to a 3SGTE head without problems, mostly 93+ 5SFE blocks, and you can tell if your block will bolt up to the head by getting the head gasket for your generations 3SGTE head and lay it on your 5SFE block, if all the holes line up right, you're in business But if you drill out the coolant passages(About $200 USD if you take it to a machine shop) so they line up(this is common 5SGE practice)then you're back in business again Seems like everyone over at MR2OC says once you have determined if/made your block will/to work you will need new pistons to bring up the compression ratio with pistons that are .5mm to big requiring you to bore out your block because with stock 5SFE pistons and the 3SGTE head you'll end up with a compression ratio of 8.65 to 1, now here's what I don't get, the 3SGTE has a stock CR of 8.5 to 1 so WHY do you need new pistons for a higher compression ratio if it's already higher than stock!? If the CR is low you can boost THAT much MORE, people pay big money for Low CR pistons, I just Don't Understand this logic, anyone else care to explain!? Then after you have your head hooked up you can start bolting on all the manifolds and such you gotta decide about Engine Management. You can choose to go full EMS, a piggyback w/ 3SGTE ECU, or if you plan on running stock levels of boost(for a 3SGTE) you can actually just use the just the 3SGTE ECU because(according to MR2OC)the stock ECU is able to do all the calculations and can adjust itself for the extra .2L of displacement even if it dosen't know they exist. |
