so i'm making a left out of the parking structure, i hear this loud *thud*, and my car stops moving. i have it in gear but it refuses to move (both sides aren't moving). i have my friends help push the car back into the parking lot, and it sounds horrible (clanking all over the place).

now, i'm not 100% sure but i believe my tranny is dead, but it could also be the axle, or i don't even know.

my question: what should i do? first, i know i have to get it towed to a mechanic. second, if he tells me its my transmission, what are my options? i'm planning on swapping in the near future, possibly summer, with intentions of switching out to the e-153 tranny. should i have my transmission rebuilt, switch to another GT tranny, or swap to the e-153? i'm assuming of course the e-153 bolts right up to the 5sfe.

i have an adequate amount of money to play with, just not enough to do a complete engine swap.

the E-153 cannot work on a 5SFE unless you get a custom disk.

The reason for this is because the 5SFE pressure plate is too small to fit a 3SGTE disk (which is the only thing that fits the splines on the tranny input shaft).

but, i have to agreed, from what you described it does sound like bad axle.
