I have a 1997 celica, that has the stock radio. Sometimes the front speakers dont work sometimes thy do. Is this an amp problem or a radio problem. Is the posibility that i need to replace the amp. Its a very rare form that is no being sold on ebay. I want to also exchange the radio to a 6 disc OEM toyota. What year reange can i look for, and what can i do to check the amp. Is this a normal problem. I wish to keep my car Stock, dont want aftermarket. Thanks in advance,

I have the stock amp, its not the jbl, but it is the 6 speaker version.

Pretty much the amp looks like this.

(cut and pase into browser if you cant click).

I was thinking to cut the wires and hook up an amp to the stereo i have in the mean time i get my 6 disc in, cause i dunt know if the amp is wrong. It acts up, sometimes the left front speaker works, sometimes the rignt, sometimes both, sometimes never. The back speakers always work. I have cheked for shorts but i cant see none. I m temepted to open the amp. anyways. Any suggestions on what years will fit on my car, thanks.

Not quite sure what you mean by 'What years".

If you are talking about stereos, its a double din opening and most will fit. The harness should work with any in our generation Celi. You dont need to cut the wiring on the amp, just remove the harness from under the stock amp and plug that directly into the head unit. It will bypass the amp and just power all 6 speakers off the stereo.

This will not truely be a 6 speaker setup though, since it will split the 2 front channels into 4 speakers, but will help you narrow down if its the amp or the stereo.
