In the middle of fixing oil leaks on my new car, I had to remove the dizzy. Got it all back together and now it won't start. I've tested all ignition components and here are the results: Battery was dead,Dizzy=good, wires=good, plugs=new, ignition coil .7ohm(.1 higher than recommended), and for the cap....All 4 terminals inside are crappy and I can't get a reading from them unless I touched the non-coated sides of each. And the BGB says to test the terminal in the middle of the cap, and I can't get a reading from that. Does anyone know if the st185 and st205 ignition coils are interchangeable? Has anyone had experience testing the 3s coil(I don't think .1 ohm is a huge deal)? I have a cap and rotor on order, it'll be here friday. And I'm going to check the resistor pack tonight(which could have been the reason for running rich).
What's are your thoughts? |

Coils are checked at 2 points for resistance, not one.
You still need to check the secondary winding [you checked the primary]. That slight bit more resistance could be a problem, but more than likely it's your cap..... Personally I wouldn't change the coil [At this point in time anyways. Replace that cap and go from there]. I don't know if the 2 coils share a p#, but they are more than likely interchangeable. At least temporarily. How rich is rich? I don't believe the 3rd gen normally runs as rich as the 2nd gen, but GTEs are set up to run rich.... -------------------- ![]() |
