Ok just wanted to talk about something that has been on my mind. well they other night i'm on my way to my girls house and i pull up to an interga at the light. its a 94 + gs was on the back.. i look over and there is this guy with his girl in there.. she keeps she looks over and smiles. then the guy looks over at me with this hard look. and revs his engine. damn thing sounds like a lawn mower. so the light turns green and were off i'm like half a car infront of him i her hes coffe can get louder.. as i pull away.. mind you i never floor it and my rpms never went past 4thousand..we get to the next light and he pulls away and i get behind him to make the left turn to get on my girls street. well since that day i have been thinking has anyone on here really tested out how much power you can get out of a 7afe.. the corolla guys seam to love there 7afe engine.. and i have had some corolla dust me on the turnpike.. everyone talks swap well how about getting a new 7afe engine and popping a turbo on it and inter cooler and seeing how much power you can get out of it.. .. cause i don't belive that you can't get a 7afe up to 300hp like my pops told me once and engine is an engine how much work do you want to do to it..

Just about any engine can make big power. The reason that the engines to have work so well and are so easy to mod to big power levels is because the development has already been done on them. Engine development is VERY expensive when it has to be done from scratch. Its probably theoretically possible to get 1000hp out of a 7a-fe but there would be virtually nothing stock left. Its debateable at which point it stops being a 7a-fe and becomes a totally different beast. I've seen a stock block/stock crank 1.8l honda make 1000hp at the wheels. The block casting, the crank forging, and the head casting were the only stock parts remaining on the engine. The same could be done with a 7a...or virtually any other engine with enough money. The problem is that as power increases linearly, cost increases exponentially. It wouldn't really cost that much to get 300hp out of a 7a (easily done for under 10k) but to get 500 or more would cost a LOT more (say $40k?).
I totally believe that there are people on this board with enough money and know-how to make 300hp out of a 7a. I have the knowledge, but not the money right now. As was stated before, 200-225hp is possible on a solid stock bottom end. |
