Ok, same buddy having different problems.
Whenever he is driving, and it gets up to a certain temperature (just over halfway on the gauge), the engine will just shut off, and will not restart until it cools down. But if you run the heater, it takes awhile before it shuts off. Any ideas? |

If your engine overheats, it will NOT just shut off unless you have seized it.
The temp gauge just past the middle does NOT mean it's overheating. These gauges are not as accurate as a true temp gauge. Overheating is when it swings way over to the right. It sounds like your coil. Next time it does it, get a pair of insulated pliers [like linesmans pliers] and hold the wire going from the coil to the dist 1/4" from the coil contact. If there is spark [and it won't start], it's not the coil. If there is no spark [and you have no codes] it's most likely the coil. There is a way to check more in depth for codes.
