So over the weekend I spent about 17 hours installing new springs (Eibach 1.5's) Shocks (GR2's) and sway bars (ST). It's easy once you know what to do, but the sounds coming out of the car are horrendous. The rear clicks, pops, and feels like the whole back end is gonna fall off when I go over a bump, like the shocks aren't doing their job or the springs coming loose or something. The front used to make clunks when I turned, but that was fixed by realigning the "out" arrow with the steering knuckle bracket. It now makes some noises on the freeway, and also when you push down on the car. It creaks when you do that. Also, I didn't have to compress the rear springs to reassemble the strut. Meaning, I could turn it slightly when it was in the car, while it was raised. Obviously it doesn't turn with the weight on it, but over a bump could it be coming loose? When I took the stock rears off, the springs were compressed, and I was unable to move them. Am I missing a washer somewhere? I didn't see any when I took the strut assembly apart. Any help is appreciated.

The rubber seating part fits between the spring and the strut at the bottom and between the spring and the top plate. (Basically the spring is sandwich inbetween). They are like large washers and are there to stop the spring from slipping.
This is the top triangular part with the 3 screws on. It slides down the strut spindle and engages into a groove/flat side edge.
It goes on top of the spindle after you have fitted the top triangular part with the 3 screws on and then you put the nut on and tighten. Order of assembling front: 1. Strut 2. rubber "washer" part 3. spring (compressed) 4. rubber "washer" part 5. top plate (OUT correctly positioned) 6. Traingualar "knuckle" part 7. Nut Order of assembling rear: 1. Strut 2. rubber "washer" part 3. spring (compressed) 4. rubber "washer" part 5. top plate 6. Traingualar "knuckle" part 7. Washer 8. Nut Hope that's a bit more clear, but feel free to ask if not. |
