I'm finishing my 3sgte swap this week and we haven't got to the issue of the downpipe yet. Do I HAVE to buy a new one, or can I just use my stock one? I have a 96 celica st.

You can probably still use your stock one if you want to keep the factory o2 sensor bung location where it's at. All you need to do is cut off about 1 1/2" from the bung and use a short pipe with the same diameter or larger and weld it on the 3sgte's downpipe (if its cut). Here's a picture of what I mean by mating the two pipes together, and this was made by a local exhaust shop:

The other alternative is to weld the exhaust piping to the 3sgte's downpipe from front to rear, so it's just one big long pipe from the downpipe. I also suggest installing a flex pipe between the exhaust piping and the engine's downpipe. An o2 sensor bung will need to be installed on this setup though. So drill a hole in the piping closest to the downpipe (flexpipe) and weld a o2 sensor bung on there. This post has been edited by netrata: Jul 5, 2007 - 9:10 PM -------------------- ![]() |
