I want to upgrade my head unit (currently have a Pioneer DEH-8000) and want to go with a Audio/Visual unit with navigation. I decided going with a Double-DIN unit over a flip down unit, I just found out that several units can not view DVD while driving (only while parked). I believe the Alpine IVA-W200 unit is one of them. Is is true about all Double-DIN units.

All Dvd Units come with a wire that your supposed to hook up to your emergency brakek, therefore when your emergency brake is up and the light on your dash is on you can view your dvd's. Ive heard of some people just clicking thier emergency brake up one notch so it isnt actually engaged and driving like that to view dvd's. What i did with mine is bought a simple switch. I took the wire that was supposed to run to the emergency brake and ran it in series to the switch then i ran another wire to a ground. Now if i put a dvd in i can use the switch to watch my dvds and if i ever got pulled over i could flick my hidden switch so that the unit would now say audio only the police cannot give me a ticket.

You can also just hook up that same wire just to ground but then you will not have control of turning the dvd function of if you were to get pulled over. and i believe, in canada at least it is a pretty heafty fine.
