I'm not looking for a bike right now, I got one thats pretty good but i was wanting to learn alot about them and get a good one when I go to the bike shop to get one. I don't want to spend a ridiculas amount of money on one and my local shop has a trek for $240 that was like $260 according to the stickers. Sry i dont know the model but i was wondering if it would be a good long lasting bike? I am mainly concerned with it staying in gear and not slipping out of gear. Im not so concerned with weight and stuff. I just want a good reliable mountain bike and i have read and heard good things about them but i was wanting some more opinions...

I am sure Trek like other manufacturers makes both good and bad bikes, guess it comes down for value for money and what you are going to use it for ie one of these probably wont handle jumping and the likes, a $260 bike is probably built for mostly riding around on the road and perhaps some gravel fire roads. As long as you look after it well (keep it lubed and tuned etc) it should last just fine.
