Bad Smell Fromt Airconditioning Options

Hey guys i was just wondering if we have some sort of pollen filter that we need to replace from time to time, because im getting an awful wet flower/dead leaves smell when the a/c is on. In my moms 2000 jetta she had a pollen filter and she had to change it when this happend to her?

i asked a master toyota tech at work and he said that the smell is from condensation pooled up somewhere and changing the cabin air filter probably wouldn't change it as well as you'd think. i get that smell really bad so i run my ac on the outside air thing instead of recirculate. BG products also sells some stuff that helps.
