Just recently I have noticed a high pitched metalic screaching sound coming from the transmission somewhere. The sound is faint (loud music/exhaust probably drowned it out before I noticed it) and only occurs occasionaly but only when downshifting.
I cannot feel any difference in performance but the sound does not sound healthy! Btw I took the car to mechanic, but as with most intermittent mechanical sounds, it never occured when he was in the car!  Any ideas? It could be your throwout bearing, part of you clutch system. If it only makes the sound downshifting from one gear then it could be in the trans.
