Did a quick search, but couldnt find the answer I'm looking for. Sorry if I missed it.
I'm looking at replacing my alt, but dont know which one I should be looking for. Car is a 98 chassis with a jdm 93 mr2 engine. I know the mr2 mounting brackets are different from the 5sfe's, but is the actual part different? When I call the shop should I be asking for an alt for a 98 celica (5sfe motor) or for a 93 mr2? because we are not 100% sure if the mr2 alt fits in the 5sfe or st185 bracket, when it gets relocated to the front of the motor.
you should probably look up the part number thats written on your old alt. that will tell you where it came from, and what you need to replace it with. This post has been edited by lagos: Aug 8, 2007 - 12:10 PM -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

QUOTE(lagos @ Aug 8, 2007 - 11:09 AM) because we are not 100% sure if the mr2 alt fits in the 5sfe or st185 bracket, when it gets relocated to the front of the motor. you should probably look up the part number thats written on your old alt. that will tell you where it came from, and what you need to replace it with. Aye tha's an idea. I never thought of looking up the old P/N. I was also going to call toyota and ask parts to cross reference the P/N's for a celica and an mr2. I didn't see any physical differences between the two, from back when I had 2 celica's, and they both looked the same, and as far as I could tell, they mounted in the same spots. Art, why would I need a 5sfe plug for? Wouldn't I need the 3sgte plug to go with the 3sgte engine harness? How can I check to see if my alt is dying? Would it be better to use a volt/ohm meter or to start the car, and unhook the neg terminal? How would I check using the multimeter? This post has been edited by 6gsillyca: Aug 8, 2007 - 10:42 PM |
