One very simple question. Does the 3S-GTE engine work on an Automatic? Now, a better question--does it work on an Automatic AT200 (USDM ST)? If not, is it within reason to change the transmission and do whatever else necessary to put a 3S-GTE into the USDM ST? ..if it does require additional modifications (beyond transmission), list what you think should be changed.
For those of you that just love to help us n00bs out: -What kind of risk will I run using this engine? (i.e.: could some random part blow much easier with this engine?) -Should I replace anything else in my car after installing this engine? -What would you recommend doing assuming I had infinite cash and wanted to keep my car a 6GC? And for those of you that just want to help me out because I'm new to the site: -How would an Intake/Exhaust upgrade fair against a 3S-GTE upgrade? (I know the price differences, I just want to know hp comparison) -What brand would you recommend for Intake? (if it's exotic, where can I get it?) -What EXACTLY is an 'exhaust'.. I mean, (god I hate sounding so stupid, don't ream me too bad..), I'm seeing exhaust manifold, pipe (der der), silencer, etc.. and nothing really makes sense since most of these websites just have part names and prices, no description. What is the part, why am I looking for it, how much should I expect it to run me? -What risks do I run having installed an Intake/Exhaust? (would it stress any particular part more than intended causing a shorter life span? what parts? why?) -Any idea on how much my insurance could increase by installing an Intake/Exhaust? A 3S-GTE? -Does installing a body kit or any other interior/exterior styling component affect insurance rates? Thanks guys, (don't be too mean, I'm 15 and I guess this is about the only way I have to learn about this stuff..) -Brian |

The ST auto tranny will not bolt up as mentioned... but you can probably use a Camry 1mzfe auto tranny or even the GT (5sfe) auto tranny. I believe both will bolt up. With an ST, you'll have to swap over motor mounts and GT axles.
If the engine swap alone, it should require no real serious part changes to the car, aside from axles to fit the tranny, and motor mounts to mount the new engine.
not a very good question...cause with money, possibilities are endless.
No comparison. Intake and Exhaust may add 5-10 hp tops, if even, while the engine swap to a 3sgte can add a tone more. Let's just say, a 7AFE with Intake and exhaust might push 115-120 bhp tops... while a 3sgte can push easily 200 bhp or more... The swap itself isn't for the weak at heart. Not very many people on the boards can do it themselves, or actually *have* a swap. If you can't do it yourself, expect to pay out the arse for labor... not including the front clip needed to correctly complete the swap. A lot of people here make it sound like it's easy, and they all have dreams of it, but it's mostly all hopes and dreams. I'm willing to bet most people here drive their cars as a daily driver and cannot let their cars be put in the shop for the time necessary to complete a true swap. If I were you, and plan to drive the car for a while, an engine swap should not be the first thing to do on your list. I personally like the 7AFE... I mean, I drove my car on a road trip this summer and got 38 mpg and had enough power and torque to have fun with. A 3sgte cannot compete with that... but it will be a lot more fun...=]
I'd reccomend going custom if you want a cold air intake. You can build one cheaper than you can buy a Cold air system. For a short ram, you can use a Civic intake which can run 15-20 bucks from eBay...
Basically, it's an enlarged pipe typically from the catalytic converter (Cat-back) back all the way to the muffler. It's basically the pipe that runs from the exhaust manifold back to the muffler... an exhaust system refers to the enlargement of this pipe. An added straight flow muffler will improve the performance slighty.
No stress... intakes and exhaust typically relieve stress, hence the added power.
The insurance companies never have to know unless they come and personally inspect the car and ask. The 3sgte, you might not even be able to insure it... but it should typically be ok. Intake and exhaust will probably strike as a car that will be driven more harshly... so they *might* charge a bit more...but they usually never know.
unless you want to insure it...no. Hope I helped... This post has been edited by Kwanza: Sep 9, 2003 - 1:52 AM |
